How To Combat Zoom Fatigue While Working From Home

Zoom fatigue is a phenomenon that has become all too familiar over the past year for those who work from home. These video meetings can drain us—we juggle paying attention to different faces and backgrounds, ignoring our own faces in the corner, maintaining a smooth conversation without the aid of non-verbal cues, and trying not to multitask during meetings. By the end of the day, we can feel far more exhausted than usual.

While spending your day on video meetings can feel exhausting, Christopher Todd Communities is here to help. We have some recharging tips to make working from your home (or your luxury smart home) a breeze.

Set Up An Office

If you don’t have a home office already, consider setting up a dedicated space in your home to help establish a routine, keep you focused, and designate a quiet coworking space if others in your household are working from home as well. This can also help mentally differentiate between “home environment” and “work environment” if you’re having a hard time disconnecting from work during breaks.

Switch Platforms

A simple solution that may give everyone some relief is to switch your communication platform. Consider the information you have to discuss and try email or a traditional phone call, if it can be shared that way. This eliminates the tiresome video element of the conversation and can also save you time!

Working from home at Christopher Todd Communities means you have plenty of space indoors and outdoors. Take your phone call outside at our poolside ramadas or in the privacy of your own backyard.

Change The Scenery

Moving from one area to another can be a great tool to refresh and recharge if you’re tired of your office view. Take your work out of its usual space and opt instead for some fresh air in an outdoor living space like your backyard.

At Christopher Todd Communities, horizontal living ensures that you can work indoors peacefully without the interruption of noisy neighbors over your head. Or, try using our community-wide WiFi for a relaxing Zoom meeting in a ramada by our heated pool.

Practice Mindfulness

In the midst of these changes to your workflow, it’s essential to take time for yourself to relax and recenter. Look up breathing techniques on YouTube, try a meditation app, spend some time in nature, or check out the meditation resources on Netflix. Recharging your mind will help you keep working from home effectively and productively—with less stress.

In our single-family home communities, you can recharge by relaxing in the style of your luxury smart home, take a serene walk on our trails, or join a session at the Yoga Studio or Fitness Center in our newest communities.

Avoid Isolation

While it’s important to practice social distancing, it can be draining to feel limited by digital interactions all day. Challenge yourself to find unique socially distanced ways you can spend time with friends, family, and neighbors, especially outdoors.

If you live in one of our communities, consider grabbing a socially distanced meal with a loved one at the outdoor fireplace and barbeque stations, playing a round of fetch with your pup in our Bark Park, or joining a neighbor for a bike ride around our gated community.

Whether it’s twenty minutes between meetings or logging off a little early in the afternoon, it’s helpful to step away from your screen and take breaks. This means the computer screen and the phone screen. Go outside, run an errand, and let your mind focus on something else for a little while.

When you’re trying to take a relaxing break at Christopher Todd Communities, you can take your pup to one of our small parks via our beautiful walkways, enjoy the sunshine on our community lawn, or go for a refreshing swim through our heated pool.
